NC State QB Devin Leary transferring to Kentucky ::

Devin Leary has found a new football home.

The former NC State quarterback will transfer to Kentucky, he announced on social media. Leary was considered one of the top quarterbacks available in the transfer portal. Leary posted a photo of rapper Drake suiting up in Kentucky basketball gear to his Instagram account and then posted he was “Bluegrass Bound” on Twitter.

Leary, the Wolfpack’s starting quarterback for the last four seasons, announced he would transfer for his final year of eligibility earlier this month. Leary, the ACC’s preseason player of the year, missed the second half of the season with a torn pectoral muscle.

In 26 games for NC State, Leary passed for 6,807 yards and threw 62 touchdowns. His best season came in 2021 when Leary threw for 3,433 yards and 35 touchdowns with just five interceptions. Leary joined the NC State program in 2018.

Kentucky quarterback Will Levis announced earlier this month that he was entering the NFL Draft. Levis is expected to be a first-round pick. Kentucky went 7-5 in 2022 and is playing in the Music City Bowl.

“I wish Devin well,” NC State coach Dave Doeren said earlier this month. “He’s been a great young man to coach. Nothing but respect and positive things. He made a decision and let’s leave it at that.”

NC State is 8-4 and will play Maryland in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl in Charlotte. After Leary’s injury, the Wolfpack started three different quarterbacks, including freshman MJ Morris.

Doeren said both Morris and quarterback Ben Finley, who started and won the Wolfpack’s regular-season finale against North Carolina, are practicing for the bowl.
